Limited edition Italian hypercar bound for World Time Attack Challenge in Sydney.

It makes almost 600kW from a twin-turbo V12, can sprint to 100km/h in less than three seconds and is worth a cool $3 million – and it’s set to debut at Sydney Motorsport Park in October.

The Pagani Huayra BC is making its way from Italy via the United States for the World Time Attack Challenge, a sprint event that attracts some of the wildest machines on the planet to duke it out for the honour of recording the single fastest lap.

While it’s the first time a Huayra – which launched in 2012 – will touch down on our shores, there have been a small handful of Pagani’s Zondas sold to well-heeled Australian car enthusiasts.

Weighing just 1218kg, the left-hook Huayra BC – known as Prototype 00 – will return to the US after the event.

It uses a Mercedes-Benz 6.0-litre V12 that’s been twin-turbocharged, and makes 588kW and 1000Nm of torque.

As part of the festivities, WTAC organiser Ian Baker negotiated with the Pagani factory in Modena to ship out one of the company’s own Huayra BCs, which will be piloted by the equally famous Japanese ace, Keichii Tsuchiya.

The 60-year-old Tsuchiya-san, a veritable folk figure in the world of modified cars, is regarded as one of the pioneers of the sport of drifting, and also raced in the premier Japanese GT touring car series and at Le Mans.

“Tsuchiya-san is a perfect choice,” said Baker. “With his Le Mans, and Japanese Super GT experience, he will be able to get the most out of the car.”

The Huayra will not be competing directly in the World Time Attack Challenge, now in its fourth year at the Sydney venue. Instead, Tsuchiya-san will pilot the car in special lunchtime sessions on the Friday and Saturday of the event.

The Huayra BC is a ground-up makeover of Italian hypercar maker Pagani’s second model (after the Zonda), and is named after the very first customer that founder Horacio Pagani ever built a car for.

Italian-born property developer Benny Caiola (BC), an avid car collector and close friend of Pagani, died in the US in 2010, and 20 cars will be built in his honour.

The all-carbon mid-engined monster is lighter, makes more power and sports a complete aerodynamic update when compared to the ‘standard’ Hauyra, including active wings front and rear.

It uses a Mercedes-Benz 6.0-litre V12 that’s been twin-turbocharged, and makes 588kW and 1000Nm of torque.

The World Time Attack Challenge takes place October 14 and 15 at Sydney Motorsport Park.
