The entry version of the new MX-5 RF lists at $38,550, or $5340 under the GT version that sits above it. It also commands a $3710 premium over the equivalent 2.0-litre soft top MX-5.
Aside from the electric folding hardtop that will raise or lower in 13 seconds, standard features include cloth trim, seven-inch MZD Connect multimedia screen with sat nav and embedded apps (but no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto), blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Like all RF’s, the base model gets the 118kW/200Nm 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission, with the option of a six-speed torque converter auto for an extra $2000.
