Lamborghini has unveiled the Huracan Performante – more powerful and aggressively styled than the 'standard' version – just prior to its public debut at the Geneva motor show this week.

It was only last week the Italian manufacturer released a video of its new supercar lapping the famous Nurburgring circuit in a production car record 6:52.01, besting the previous fastest lap time by nearly five seconds.

The 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 petrol engine from the standard Huracan carries over, but outputs are boosted to 470kW (+21kW) at 8000rpm and 600Nm (+40Nm) at 6500rpm.

The bigger numbers are thanks largely to new titanium valves, an improved air intake, and optimised exhaust.

Once again, only a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is offered with the Performante, as per its donor car.

A 40kg reduction to the track weapon's kerb weight is due to the extensive use of carbon-fibre in the front and rear spoiler, engine bonnet, diffuser and rear bumper.

These savings allow the 1382kg Performante to sprint from 0-100km/h in 2.9sec, 0-200km/h in 8.9s, and all the way up to a top speed of 325km/h.

However, according to Lamborghini, the biggest performance improvements come from the two-door's active aerodynamic system – which the brand calls 'Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva' (ALA) – featuring a combination of adjustable flaps and wings that hone air flow in any given scenario.

Located inside the front spoiler and on two ducts attached to the rear wing, these flaps open or close depending on the driving conditions and help to maximise downforce when required, as well as improving cornering stability.

Perhaps the most striking change to the Performante externally is the addition of a forged composite carbon-fibre rear wing spoiler, with the supercar-maker claiming it produces up to a 750 per cent increase in maximum vertical downforce when compared to the Huracan coupe.

Other exterior upgrades extend to a dynamic front spoiler, black side skirts with Italian flag-coloured stripes, blacked-out side mirrors, a more pronounced rear diffuser, centrally mounted twin exhaust outlets, and lightweight 20-inch 'Narvi' alloy wheels.  

Enthusiastic drivers can expect to hear a more aggressive sound from the new exhaust system, which also contributed to the weight loss.

Revisions to the suspension see vertical stiffness increased by 10 per cent and roll stiffness by 15 per cent, while radial and axial arm bushings are now 50 per cent more rigid than the donor coupe.

Electric power steering and the optional 'Lamborghini Dynamic Steering' (LDS) have also been modified to provide even more driver feedback when any of the Performante's three driving modes – Strada, Sport or Corsa – are engaged.

Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres are fitted and offer high-performance grip and handling, as well as the carbon ceramic discs with their six-pot front and four-pot rear brake calipers which pull up the Performante in only 31 metres from 100km/h.

Lashings of forged composite carbon-fibre are found in the interior with the air vents, gear paddles, door handles and centre console featuring the lightweight material.

Alcantara is also employed for the sports seats, dash and steering wheel, in addition to contrast stitching throughout the entire interior.

Apple CarPlay is compatible with the digital cockpit display, which integrates the instrument cluster and can be adjusted via the different driving modes.

Customers will start taking delivery of the Huracan Performante during the middle of the year, but Australian pricing and specification is yet to confirmed by Lamborghini's local arm.
