The BMW M240i Coupe ($76,800) or Convertible ($85,800), sits at the top of the main two series line-up and is powered by a turbo-petrol in-line six-cylinder engine. The equipment list is lengthy, with highlights including 18-inch alloys in ‘Bicolour Jet Black’, 12-speaker, 360W harman/kardon surround sound audio, ‘Adaptive M Suspension’, ‘Adaptive LED Headlights’, ‘Dakota’ leather trim, and front seat heating.
Its smooth, 3.0-litre six pushes out no less than 250kW at 5500rpm, and a thumping 500Nm between 1520-4500rpm. Standard transmission is an eight-speed automatic, pushing drive to the rear wheels only, and happily for three pedal enthusiasts, a six-speed manual gearbox is a no-cost option.
The price of performance bites when it comes to fuel economy with the M240i consuming a claimed 7.1L/100km (163g/km) in coupe form, and 7.4L/100km (169g/km) as a convertible on the combined (ADR 81/02 - urban, extra-urban) cycle.
Across the mainstream 2 Series line-up (220i to M240i) driver assistance tech including AEB, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection and lane departure warning is standard.
