Mazda Australia has increased the pricing of its MX-5 convertible range, with the base 1.5 and 2.0-litre variants upped by $100 and the higher-spec GT versions now $1320 more expensive in both rag-top and retractable fastback (RF) guises. 

The entry-level 1.5-litre manualsoft-topMX-5 now starts at $33,340 before on-road costs while the more equipment-heavy GT version now wears a $38,340 pricetag.

Stepping up to the 2.0-litre variants, pricing now checks in at $34,850 for the base three-pedal version and $39,890 for the GT.

Retractable hardtop MX-5s, which are powered exclusively by the 2.0-litre engine, start at $38,550 for the base model and $43,890 for the GT.

The range-topping RF Limited Edition is the only MX-5 variant that is not subject to the price hike, retaining its price of $52,210.

The pricing reshuffle comes as Mazda tweaks the rear suspension of the soft-top models for improved handling, added insulation to reduce noise and vibration, and rolled-out a wider range of exterior paint options across the range.

Mazda has also added optional bright aluminum 16-inch wheels for the 1.5-litre MX-5 GT.

“The MX-5 carries a promise of fun, and the upgraded fourth-generation model certainly upholds this” said Mazda Australia boss Vinesh Bhindi.

“The enhancements and added equipment are another phase in its constant evolution, which is testament to Mazda’s endless pursuit of achieving driving pleasure,” he said.
