Mercedes will offer the new flagship AMG GT 4-door Coupe from its Australian launch in the second quarter of 2019 in limited-edition Edition 1 guise, pairing bespoke styling with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine.

While the GT 4-door Coupe was revealed earlier this year at the Geneva motor show in three flavours – the less-powerful 320kW/520Nm GT53, and 430kW/800Nm GT63, plus the full-fat 470kW/900Nm GT63 S – the Edition 1 will only be available to buyers of the top-spec variant in its first 12 months on sale.

Distinguished by its ‘deisgno graphite grey magno', ‘diamond white bright’ or ‘graphite grey metallic’ exterior paintwork and sports stripes, the Edition 1 will also wear 21-inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels (finished in matt black) and a sports bodykit consisting of a larger front splitter, a fixed rear wing and a chunky rear diffuser.

Inside, the Edition 1 gains magma grey/black nappa leather AMG seats and door inserts with yellow contrast stitching across the aforementioned pews, a microfibre steering wheel and dashboard, yellow seatbelts, matte carbon-fibre trim, illuminated AMG door sills, and ‘Edition 1’ floor mats and steering wheel-mounted badging, as well a unique ‘AMG #63’ in-cabin fragrance.

Options on the Edition 1 will extend to an ‘AMG Night Package’, ceramic brakes and ‘High-Class' rear seats.

Performance from AMG’s ubiquitous 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 in the Edition 1 remains identical to the GT63 S, which sees its peak 470kW of power available from 5500-6500rpm and maximum 900Nm of torque on tap from 2500-4500rpm.

Power is fed to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission for a 0-100km/h sprint in just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 315km/h in the two-tonne sedan.

Fuel consumption is rated at 11.2 litres per 100km, while CO2 emissions measure 256 grams per kilometre.

Australian pricing is yet to be confirmed for the GT 4-door Coupe range, but expect to see AMG’s super sedan square up against the likes of the $384,500 (before on-roads) Porsche Panamera Turbo and $424,900 BMW M760Li.
