The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign will make its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed ahead of being put into limited-run production, offering its well-heeled potential customers their first glimpse at what will be a $1.4m Nissan.

Designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of both the GT-R and Italian design and engineering firm Italdesign, the GT-R50 began life as a prototype, but now Nissan is inviting “serious interest” for a potential run of 50 examples.

But before you run off to register your details, a quick word on price. The GT-R50 is estimated to start at 900,000 Euro. Yes, that’s $1.416m. And yes, that’s “start”.

Nissan and Italdesign are saying it will be built, provided the public reaction to the GT-R50 at Goodwood is positive. So, a very good chance that it will be made, then.

“The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the ideal setting to showcase the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign, which combines power and artistry to celebrate 50 years of inspiring the dreams of our customers,” says Nissan’s senior vice president of global design, Alfonso Albaisa.

“It’s the perfect setting to showcase a unique vehicle that will stir the imagination of people to dream even bigger.” 

So what are you buying? For a start, the GT-R’s already formidable twin-turbo V6 engine has been tweaked to produce another 88kW, now 530kW, with torque listed at 780Nm, owing mostly to borrowed components from Nissan's GT3 race car.

The body is entirely new, too, now sporting a sleeker roofline, gold plating at the rear, a completely reimagined “floating” rear light cluster and stunning recessed headlights that climb the bonnet. Inside, expect a sea of Alcantara, leather and gold.

“At Italdesign, we have a long history of making our customers’ dreams come true. By joining forces now with our partners at Nissan, we brought a true GT-R fantasy to life,” says Italdesign CEO, Joerg Astalosch.

“Together, we have the target that soon this ‘monster’ of a vehicle will change the lives of 50 very select enthusiasts. Their wait will soon be over.”
