Subaru BRZ 2019 revealed in Japan

The Subaru BRZ has been face-lifted for 2019, with the updated model revealed in Japan ahead of a global unveiling.

And if you're expecting the changes to be fairy minimal... you'd be exactly right. Despite the BRZ having kicked around since 2012, Subaru has merely tickled, rather than overhauled, its two-door coupe in an effort to fine-tune the drive experience.

According to the (admittedly rather poorly translated by us) Japanese documents, the updated BRZ is now home to new rear fins designed to suppress turbulence at the rear of the car at speed, as well as an all-new suspension tune that is supposed to improve handling and car control.

Under the bonnet, then, remains the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit that produces 152kW and 212Nm, paired with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic, with power still sent to the rear tyres in the most raw and wonderful fashion.

But is that enough to keep the sporty Subaru fresh? We'll find out when it launches in Australia. No official date has been confirmed, but we'd expect to see the updated BRZ touch down sometime next year.

Is it it time for an all-new BRZ? Or is improving the formula enough? Tell us in the comments below.
